On Wednesday, June 17, the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton hosted the Student Annual VIII honoring artwork inspired by the reserve, which students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to visit free of charge. The reserve received over 300 submissions in categories as diverse as animation, technology, photography, product design, illustration and landscape architecture to fashion design, art and poetry, sculpture, mixed media, drawing and furniture design. Of these, 120 pieces, either individual or collaborative, were chosen by a juried panel to receive ribbons.
On Wednesday, several hundred people joined the students at the opening of the Student Annual VIII. Eleventh grade Ross School student Emma Engel performed her award winning dance, “Function of the Senses,” and Hugobot, a robotics entry from the Bridgehampton School was also on hand to accept his award. The Bridgehampton High School Marimba Band also performed at the reception.
All the award winning work is available for view at longhouse.org. The work will also be on view at Suffolk County National Bank in East Hampton and Sag Harbor through September 11.
