Pierson Eighth Grader Wins Gymnastics Gold

Leyla Dorph-Lowrie, an eighth grader at Pierson Middle-High School, won a gold medal at a recent New York State gymnastics competition in Brentwood. Dorph-Lowrie competed in both the floor exercise and the vault, taking home top honors for her age group (13-14) in the vault.

The Addams Family Comes to Sag Harbor Tonight

A man wearing a white fur toga and an Einstein-esque wig is stroking something. Earlier, he was a tree, dancing around with branches alongside a flapper, a Native-American woman, a woman resembling Marie Antoinette, and others, all dressed eerily in white. The man is neither Socrates nor Einstein, but is in fact a “Cave Man Ancestor”—or, in reality, Pierson High School student Nick Knab. He is one of the many unnerving, yet strangely comedic, “ancestors” in “The Addams Family,” the latest theatrical production at Pierson High School.

Katy’s Courage Celebrates Five Years

Few events celebrate the East End’s local community like the Katy’s Courage 5K, which was held Saturday morning under glorious sunny skies in Sag Harbor. This year was the fifth anniversary of the race, which was born out of tragedy but has blossomed into an event surrounded by joy, camaraderie and celebration.

The Pierson softball team entered Monday’s game against Hampton Bays on the heels of two straight losses to Center Moriches and Babylon, the top two teams in League VI. Montauk Rugby Sets Sight on Rematch

Following a perfect 6-0 fall campaign and a win over Brooklyn earlier this month, the Sharks resumed their spring playoff run with a disappointing 35-10 loss to the New York Rugby Club at Herrick Park in East Hampton on Saturday. The match was not an elimination game for either team, but was used to determine seeding going forward.

After the Bridgehampton boys basketball team won the program’s ninth state championship in Glens Falls last month, star player Charles Manning Jr. and head coach Carl Johnson were honored by Newsday, with Manning named first team All-Long Island and Johnson chosen as Suffolk County’s Coach of the Year.
