Bridgehampton School senior Ben McLaughlin watches as the portable classroom he has been building for two years out of a shipping container is lowered onto a truck Wednesday morning in preparation for the classroom’s nautical voyage to the Yasawa Islands of Fiji. McLaughlin and a group of Bridgehampton School students and teachers will travel to Yasawa later this spring to set up the classroom for the Bukama Village School. In addition to providing needed educational supplies, including 12-computers that will be powered by solar panels, McLaughlin hopes the classroom will also provide a link for communication between the Bridgehampton School and the Bukama Village School and shine a light on the ravages global warming has had on the island nation.
