Friends Raise $35,000 for Hampton Library

Posted on 07 November 2012

The Friends of the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton presented library director Kelly Harris with a check for $35,150 last week, funds raised by the Friends over the course of the last year in support of programming at the library.

The money was raised through two fundraisers, an annual cocktail party in July and the long standing Fridays at Five Author Talks, held every Friday in July and August.

“The monies raised by our wonderful, dedicated Friends will be used for a variety of things to improve service to our patrons,” said Harris.

Harris said each department within the Hampton Library would directly benefit from the funding.

The young adult department will receive new laptops for teen use, said Harris and the purchase of more English as a Second Language (ESL) material will enhance the adult outreach classes. The family department will receive more money for programming to promote literacy and summer reading, said Harris and the library will also purchase iPads for use in popular technology classes for adults.

“The Board of Trustees and the Library staff would like to express their gratitude and give a big thank you to the Friends of the Library and our community for supporting these events,” said Harris.
