Still Early, but a Big Win for Pierson Soccer

After an hour of tightly-played and highly-intense soccer, Jack Fitzpatrick found himself alone with only Southold goaltender John Charles Funke standing between him and the Pierson-Bridgehampton soccer team’s biggest win of the year so far.

Fitzpatrick, Pierson’s junior center-midfielder, was the beneficiary of two great passes from Jesus Padilla and Ian Barrett and scored the game winner with 47 seconds gone in double overtime.

The Pierson-Bridgehampton girls soccer team, which has struggled in recent years, is re-building and got a close-up look this week at what the program’s desired result might look like.

With a budding group of young players, a dedicated senior class and a new head coach in Lisa DiRussa, the Lady Whalers earned their first win of the young season, a 3-0 victory over Smithtown Christian, on September 18. The team visited perennial powerhouse Mattituck on Friday, however, and came away with a 5-0 loss.
