Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor School Districts Approve Tax Exemptions for Veterans

School districts in Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor this week approved tax exemptions that grant school tax relief to veterans in their districts who served during a time of war. Veterans who want to receive the exemption must apply with their town assessor by March 1 for the savings to affect this tax year.

School Officials: Pierson Students Will be Allowed to Take Limos to Prom

After a month-long debate, Pierson High School Principal Jeff Nichols confirmed Friday that Sag Harbor students will be able to take whatever transportation they choose to the prom this spring.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, about one-fifth of high school girls report being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner. Girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence, almost triple the national average, according to the Department of Justice.

Hampton Library Showcases New 3D Printer for Bridgehampton

After setting his beloved model train set aside years ago when a vital piece disappeared, an elderly Bridgehampton man was finally able to return to his hobby, thanks to a new 3D printer at the Hampton Library.

John Howard Payne’s East Hampton Memories

By all accounts, John Howard Payne is one of the most revered names in East Hampton history, even if he didn’t spend that much time there and didn’t actually live in the house now known as “Home, Sweet Home” that now occupies such a central place, both literally and figuratively, in the heart of the village.

So, it is hard to believe that Payne, whose famous song was later claimed by the village as its own sentimental anthem, inadvertently managed to tick off a good part of the local population when he wrote a lengthy description of its inhabitants that appeared in a 1838 edition of The Sag Harbor Corrector (a forerunner of this newspaper and one of the first papers to be published on the East End.)
