Since she was elected to the Southampton Town Board, we have truly enjoyed having Noyac resident and Democrat Bridget Fleming involved in local government. She is smart, she is sharp, she is savvy and a complete pleasure to work with.
While we would love to see Fleming ascend in the ranks and find a place in Albany, we don’t believe this is the race for her to win. New York State Senator Ken LaValle, a Republican, is an asset we cannot afford to lose. The reality is, while we have been sorely disappointed with LaValle on big issues like the Marriage Equality Act, his work on the East End is not something that can be disregarded. A prime example of that work is the recent announcement of the potential joining of Southampton Hospital with Stony Brook University Medical Center, an alignment that would improve the quality of healthcare locally and also benefit our economy with the creation of a new hospital on the Stony Brook Southampton campus.
At the end of the day, we do feel LaValle does have our region’s best interest at heart. Working with his counterpart in the state assembly, Fred W. Thiele, Jr., LaValle has shown himself not only to be listening when it comes to East End issues, but an effective advocate and legislator for us as well. That is why LaValle carries our endorsement for 2012.
