Big Boost

Posted on 18 February 2011

Three cheers, rah- rah, huzzah!

A group of parents and Pierson staffers have gotten together to form a booster club and we think that’s great. Not that the teams and organizations here haven’t enjoyed support before, but we think a group that can help raise money for them is a wonderful idea.

Typically booster clubs are formed for the benefit of a school’s sports teams. But the newly formed Pierson Booster Club will be for the benefit of a broad range of groups ranging from sports like Pierson field hockey and basketball to theater which produces expensive shows like this season’s “Chicago” to the robotics team which can travel as far away as Florida to compete.

In these financially strapped times, when both the state and federal governments are cutting back on funding for education, it is ever more important for community businesses and individuals to step up and help support the extracurricular activities our children participate in, whether helping with soccer equipment expenses, costumes for the spring play or travel costs for the robotics team.

Our thanks to those who have volunteered to take up the cause. We’ll be happy to help out.
