Pursue Court

Posted on 10 September 2009

Sag Harbor is once again entertaining the idea of creating a village justice court and we strongly encourage the idea. Creating a village justice court would benefit Sag Harbor in a number of ways. It would cut down transportation costs and loss of man power. Village officers would no longer have to travel to Southampton to sit in on simple court cases. Handling traffic and violation tickets in the village will cut out the role of Southampton Town. The town will no longer get a bite out of these revenues. Even with the cost of a judge, the revenues and savings of a village justice court will likely outweigh this expense. We have fine facilities in the form of the police station and village hall and could easily accommodate a justice court. However, this is an idea which will require initiative and we hope the village board has the will to create a justice court in the near future.
