Health and wellness are prioritized year round on the East End, and MINDBODY Software is making a name for itself not only for the services it provides for clients, but for the work-life balance it provides for employees.

MINDBODY is a growing tech company that supplies health, beauty and fitness companies cloud-based business management software. Services including scheduling, marketing, payroll and client management are all intended to help small business owners save time and simplify their business structure. The company was founded in 2001 and originally based out of offices in San Luis Obispo, California. It has since expanded with offices in Sydney, London and now, East Hampton.

“When one of the partners in the company, Bob Murphy, decided to move to the East End full time he built this office,” said Shamir Cohen, a sales representative from the East Hampton office. Cohen says the Red Horse Plaza location couldn’t have been a better fit for the company.

“In the Hamptons, everyone is into fitness,” said Cohen. “MINDBODY is reflective of all of the clients out here that are using us.”

According to Cohen, MINDBODY software is used in nearly every yoga studio across the East End, and is also the software for Uptown Pilates in Sag Harbor, Exhale New York in Bridgehampton and Philosofit in East Hampton, just to name a few.

In 2013, MINDBODY reached more than 26,000 clients in 87 countries, and 1,200 additional locations are adopting MINDBODY software each month.

Along with a positive and growing relationship with its clients, MINDBODY has also fostered a strong relationship with its employees. In August, Outside magazine ranked MINDBODY as one of “The 100 Best Places to Work” in 2013.

East Hampton staff welcome three complementary workouts a week in their office space, including a personal trainer who comes once a week and biweekly yoga classes offered through Mandala Yoga in Amagansett and KamaDeva Yoga in East Hampton.

“The classes start around 8:15 in the morning, so that you get in a little early and then it overlaps with the start of the work day,” said Cohen. “It’s a great way to squeeze in a workout.”

A stipend of $50 a month is also given to employees to use at the businesses of any of MINDBODY’s clients. Other amenities include subsidized massages through Naturopathica Hollistic Health Spa, smoking cessation programs, nutritional coaching and 25 paid days off a year.

“I have been in this company for almost four years and I have taken advantage of all of the office amenities,” said Cohen, who explained that East Hampton offices are staffed by locals and by those who have traveled from all over the country to take the job.

“I definitely feel that I am more productive, I am more happy, I am more peaceful,” said Cohen. “It helps set the tone of my day.”

Employees are also held accountable for their behavior and office attitudes with a quarterly evaluation that determines how well staffers are upholding MINDBODY’s seven core values: purpose driven, humble and helpful, caring and happy, committed to wellness, environmentally conscious, committed to “Four C” leadership and continuously evolving. A small bonus is given to those that score highly on their evaluation.

“What most people find really attractive about the company is not only is it a great opportunity to have a job that is flexible and fun, but we have these core values,” said Cohen. “So you are not working with rude negative people. They are nice things to go by and it’s nice that our company stands by the values.”
