The Group for the East End has entered into a “cause marketing” agreement with a local swimming pool company, Sparkling Pools & Harbor Hot Tubs in Sag Harbor to be known as SPARC (Swimming Pool Altruistic Rebate Challenge).
The relationship takes advantage of the LIPA Energy Efficient Pool Pump Rebate Program which pays pool owners $400 when they replace their existing single speed pool pump with a high tech variable speed pump that uses 80% less electricity. These efficient swimming pool pumps operate at the lowest speed necessary to filter the pool. Since it takes far less energy for the pump to move water slowly rather than quickly, reducing the pump speed actually reduces the power needed to as little as 20% of what was needed previously.
“Switching your pool pump to a newer, more energy efficient model simply makes ecological and fiscal sense,” said Bob DeLuca, President of Group for the East End,
Ian Fyffe, President of Sparkling Pools in Sag Harbor adds,“ We are pleased to be able to contribute to the Group’s good work. We realize that without protecting and restoring our environment that we become just more of what our customers want to get away from.”
A typical pool owner will save $5,000 or more over the 10 year life of the variable speed pump. Peace and quiet, for both the pool owner and their neighbors, is a secondary benefit, as these pumps are whisper quiet.
Long Island’s Economy gains much needed electric capacity without the need to build new generating plants. In fact, if every pool pump on Long Island was upgraded this would free up 45,000,000 KWH per month! That’s enough energy to run 45,000 homes!
Our environment benefits from reduced emissions and CO2 and from the fact that the Group for the East End gains much needed funds for its many environmental initiatives.
