As the weather gets warmer and we begin looking outside for exercise options, two words come to mind for people seeking a true test of endurance: The Pit.
Located at Studio 89 in Sag Harbor, The Pit features 27 different obstacles placed above a bed of ocean sand, with a 1/10th mile track around the perimeter. The course includes monkey bars, a low crawl, a 15-foot rope wall, 30-foot ascending rope climb, tire tosses and a bungee run, among others.
“The biggest advantage to working outside is the surface,” Studio 89 owner Rich Decker said. “The Pit is on six inches of sand so you’re working your stability with every move for a full body workout.”
The Pit, which Decker calls an “adult playground,” is open year round, although its popularity grows in the spring and summer as temperatures rise. Classes will begin in mid-May and run through the fall. The Pit is open to the public for $20 per session.
