Make Your Own Hoop

Posted on 15 March 2011

The hoops of today are not the flimsy, toy store hula hoops from your fourth grade birthday party. These heavier, sturdy hoops are better for tricks and for working your abs. You can make your own hoop with a trip to the hardware store and a little love and attention.

Materials:
PVC Piping (3/4 inch)
Ratcheting PVC cutter
Insert-connectors (3/4 inch)
Colorful electrical tape
hairdryer

Directions:
• Measure the length of PVC piping to the size you want for your hoop. You want the hoop, when completed, to stand up to about your belly button. Cut the pipe with PVC Cutter.
• Heat the ends of the piping with the hair dryer for about 2 minutes to soften.
• Insert the connector and push the two ends together over the connector. You want the two ends to be touching. If you can’t get them that close, you may need to heat them more.
• Decorate! You can get as creative as you like with your hoop. Candy cane stripes, solid colors, glow-in-the dark or sparkly tape. Make it yours!
