Posted on 20 July 2012

Ann Marie Jones, a lifelong resident of Sag Harbor, died on the morning of July 4 at the age of 93 surrounded by her children.

She was the only child of Bill and Hattie Trimpin. Her father, a local plumber, was a Sag Harbor Village Trustee for 16 years and mayor for the five years prior to his death.

She married the late Claude Jones of Sag Harbor in 1941. He was a police officer in Sag Harbor who followed that career by 26 years as Southampton Town Clerk. Mrs. Jones was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

The family said Mrs. Jones loved living in Sag Harbor and she had good times entertaining family and friends. The family added that she was known for her great cooking and they always appreciated her fun desserts such as ice-box cake and banana fritters. Long Beach, they said, was her favorite bathing spot and tending her garden a favorite pastime.

Ann and Claude Jones had four children: Claudette who passed away in 1980; Corinne and Cindy Jones, both of Sag Harbor; and a son, Bill of Hampton Bays. Mrs. Jones is also survived by five grandchildren: Stephen and Michelle Harrington; Kevin and Donna Miller; and Delaney Jones. She also leaves, two great-grandchildren; Shane and Kiarra, daughter-in-law Pam Jackson Jones and Corinne’s partner, Michael Reilly.

A Christian Mass and Burial was held on Saturday, July 7. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Sag Harbor Ambulance Corps.
