Barbara Plante, 59, of Apollo Beach, Fla., passed away on August 3, 2012.
Mrs. Plante was a lover of knowledge and the arts, with an undergraduate degree in fine arts and a graduate degree in library sciences. She embraced an eclectic blend of interests from archeology and anthropology to the hard sciences to fiction and science fiction novels. She was a fan of the ‘50s science fiction movies and monsters and also of more contemporary disaster films.
She was a voracious reader who truly loved books, both the classics and modern works. She thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzles. Mrs. Plante worked for the Hillsborough County (Florida) library system for several years and continued as a volunteer for many years after her retirement. She also volunteered at C.A.R.E. early in the establishment of that no-kill shelter.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dennis, her close friend, Maryann Koch, her brother G. Patrick Toole, numerous Toole family uncles, aunts and cousins, in-laws Archie and Shirley Plante, sister-in-laws Denise Cote and Lisa Plante and brother-in-laws Paul Plante and Donald Plante. She was predeceased by her father George Toole, her mother Jeanne Toole Waring and step-father Stewart Waring, all of Sag Harbor.
Finally, said her family, she loved her three cats, Casey, Iris, and Aurora who will greatly miss her loving and gentle ways.
