Helen Winship

Helen Almy Winship, age 87, of Sag Harbor passed away peacefully on June 13, at Casey House,· Montgomery Hospice, Maryland.

Born on April 2, 1925 in Newton, Mass, she moved to Maryland where she graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. In 1943 she graced the April cover of Life Magazine with an article about her service as a “JANGO”, during World War II.

She was the daughter of Col. Dean Johnson Almy and Isabella Yates Almy. She was the sister of the late Dean Johnson Almy Jr. She is survived by her brothers Stephen Olney Almy of Somerset, Calif., and twin brother David Olney Almy, of Garrett Park, Md., and her son Caleb Winship of Brooklyn, NY. There will be a private service in Sag Harbor, at a later date.
