Judith Aldine Luszcz-O’Connell

Judith Aldine Luszcz-O’Connell passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2012 at the age of 66.

A longtime Sag Harbor resident, she was born in Queens, N.Y. on April 3, 1945 and grew up in Bethlehem, Penn. The oldest of five children, she spent summers in Sag Harbor as a child, before finally settling there in 1980.

A graduate of Notre Dame High School and St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Bethlehem, Penn., Mrs. Luszcz-O’Connell, went on to receive her Masters degree in Nursing from Southampton College, specializing in Gerontology as well as graduating from Stony Brook University as a Nurse Practitioner.

Mrs. Luszcz-O’Connell devoted her life to the care of others, working at Southampton Hospital for over 30 years, most recently as a Nursing Supervisor. She also ran SHH’s Diabetes Basics & Beyond Program, focusing on the care and education of patients diagnosed with diabetes on the East End. A nurse practitioner, she also saw patients at Peconic Family Medicine in Quogue, the Westhampton Care Center, and at the Shinnecock Indian Nation Health Clinic.

In her free time, Mrs. Luszcz-O’Connell enjoyed spending time with her children, Jeffrey Luszcz (wife  Katie) of San Francisco, Calif., and Alyson Luszcz of Cos Cob, Conn. and doting over her beautiful grandchildren, Rosa and Eliza. She also loved walking, dancing and traveling with her beloved companion, Chuck Neuman of Sag Harbor. She looked forward every year to the annual Thanksgiving dinner with her parents, brothers, sisters and extended family. She will always be remembered by her family, colleagues, patients and their loved ones for her beautiful smile, generous spirit and warm, calming nature.

Mrs. Luszcz-O’Connell is also survived by her father, Frank Scudner Jr. of Lancaster, Penn.; brother, Frank Scudner III (wife Vickie) of Womelsdorf, Penn.; sister, Patti Accettola of Chesapeake, Va.; brother, Peter Scudner (wife Terri) of Lancaster, Penn.; sister, Deirdre Westerhoff (husband Bill) of Dillwyn, Va.; three step-children, and nine nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother, Geraldine Scudner of Lancaster, Penn. and husband, Richard O’Connell of Sag Harbor.

The family received visitors at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor on February 4, 2012 and a funeral mass was held at St. Andrew’s R.C. Church in Sag Harbor on February 6, 2012. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery at a later date.
