George H. Smith, a 16 year resident of Walnut Street in Sag Harbor, previously of Seaford, NY, died on November 9 at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY at the age of 82. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 2, 1927 to George Smith and Catherine (Guth) Smith. He was a beloved husband to Rita (Montaruli) Smith for 59 years, a devoted father to Mary Jean Burke (James) of Galloway, NY, Elizabeth A. Propati (Domenick) of South Huntington, NY, Robin Smith of Sag Harbor, NY and Rita Ann Smith of Dix Hills, NY and a cherished grandfather of 8 grandchildren, Katie Speaker (Scott), Patrick Burke, Daniel Propati, Amanda Burke, Domenick George Propati, Chelsea Propati, David Maliglowka and Gregory Maliglowka. Mr. Smith graduated from St. John’s University, Queens, NY and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He was President of Bakers Mutual Insurance Company and Director of Finance, NYS Liquidation Bureau, NY and a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 388 and Korean War Vets of Southampton. Services were held at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home on November 11 and a mass at St. Andrews R.C. Church was held prior to his funeral at Calverton National Cemetery on November 12. George was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Andrews R.C. Church. His faith and family were the cornerstones of his identity.
