Dorothy M. Ryder

Dorothy M. Ryder, a lifelong resident of Sag Harbor and North Haven, died at Southampton Hospital on Monday, October 26. She was 82 years old.

Born in Sag Harbor on October 17, 1927, she was the daughter of Charles and Marion (McNally) Early.

Mrs. Ryder was a graduate of Bridgehampton High School and was wife, mother and cook.

She enjoyed being a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, serving as past president and selling chances and poppies to raise money for the cause. She also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and Atlantic City with her friends and family.

“She treasured her family and was a wonderful mother and great grandmother,” said family members. “She will be greatly missed.”

Predeceased by her husband, Stanley J. Ryder, she is survived by their children, Kathy Kelly of Hampton Bays, Beth O’Sullivan of Sag Harbor, Stan Ryder of North Haven and Patty Bock of East Hampton.

She was predeceased by siblings Noreen Maier of North Haven, Charlie Early of Florida, Bob Early of Aquebogue, and Jake Early, Dennis Early, Tom Early, Buddy Early and Vin Early, all of Sag Harbor. She is survived by siblings Eddie Early and Lar Early of Sag Harbor and Mary Hobbs of Florida.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held today, Thursday, October 29, at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass will be said on Friday at noon at St. Andrews R.C. Church. Interment will follow at St. Andrews Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to The Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the American Legion Auxiliary.


Donald J. Douglas

Donald J. Douglas, a resident of Sag Harbor for ten years, died at Stony Brook University Hospital on Monday, October 26, He was 79.

Born on November 9, 1929 in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of Chalres V. and Gertrude (Cassidy) Douglas. He had also lived in Piscataway, N.J.

Mr. Douglas was president of Fiat Chemical, Inc. in Piscataway until his retirement. He was a past president of the Sales Association of the Chemical Industry, the Chemist Club of New Jersey, of which he served as secretary/treasurer and board member, and the Knights of Columbus.

He attended St. Johns Preparatory School in Danivers, Mass.; Manhasset High School, Manhasset, L.I.; and Manhattan College.

Mr. Douglas served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1952 and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jeanne M. Ryan, and their children: R. Gregory Douglas (Lynne) of Columbia, Md., Keith Edward Douglas of Sag Harbor, and Donna Douglas Bartley (Parker) of Pittsburgh, Penn.

He is also survived by siblings Charles V. Douglas, Jr., G. Bruce Douglas, Patricia Douglas, Diane Grant, John Douglas, Carole Damiano and Maryann Western.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Maura and Andrew Douglas and Parker and Griffen Bartley.

Visiting will be at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home today, Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass will be said on Friday, October 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Church. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Andrews Church.


Eileen Farnam

Eileen Farnam, a 35 year resident of Noyac, died in Sag Harbor on Friday, October 23, she was 56 years old.

Born in Queens, N.Y. on December 4, 1954, she was the daughter of James and Marjorie (Tuohey) Farnam.

She had previously lived in Bethpage, L.I. and graduated Plainedge High School in 1972.

She is survived by siblings Janet Skelly (Mike) of Brentwood, Thomas Farnam of Sag Harbor, Joseph Farnam (Alicia) of Southampton, Donald Farnam (Liz) of Riverhead, Christopher (Colleen) of Water Mill, Kathleen Pesenhefer (Glenn) and James Farnam (Robin) of Hampton Bays.

She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews.

Mass will be said today, Thursday, October 29, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews R.C. Church. Interment will follow at St. Andrews Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps.


Edith A. Smith

Edith A. Smith, a former bookkeeper at the Emporium Hardware Store in Sag Harbor, died at her home in Springs, East Hampton, on Thursday, October 22. She was 68.

Mrs. Smith was born in Southampton on November 6, 1940, the daughter of Kenneth P. and Estel Avens.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis A. Smith and is survived by their children John A. Smith of Sag Harbor and Eric P. Smith of Santa Cruz, Calif.

She is also survived by siblings Fred Avens, Robert Avens, Mary Athetstone and Helen Martin.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Southampton High School.

Services will be held Sunday, October 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home. Remains were to be cremated.
