Sam Van Kuren Willson, 84, of Sag Harbor and New York City, passed away October 2, 2012 after a brief illness. Mr. Willson, born February 11, 1928 in Rutland, Vermont, attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated with honors from Harvard College in 1950. He went on to serve his country during the Korean conflict.
After teaching English at Phillips Academy Andover, Mr. Willson pursued a career in New York City in advertising and overseas personnel management for the Interpublic Group. He pursued a second career as organist and choirmaster at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church and also composed music and frequently conducted the Choral Society of the Hamptons.
In retirement, Mr. Willson wrote and published short stories and poetry, which gave many friends and readers great pleasure.
He is survived by his loving partner of 42 years, Gerald Rosenfeld, his nephews Jon and David, niece Carrie and eight grand-nephews and nieces.
A memorial service was held October 8 at Christ Episcopal Church, Sag Harbor.
