Decorated U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, John Behan, announced this week that he is endorsing Jay Schneiderman for re-election to the Suffolk County Legislature.
Behan, who has served as a New York State Assemblyman and Director of New York’s Division of Veterans Affairs said that Schneiderman had earned his support through hard work and effective leadership on issues that matter to the region. Behan pointed to the recent opening of the new East End clinic for Veterans, the support of commercial fisherman and his efforts to reduce Lyme disease as examples of Schneiderman’s leadership.
“I’m proud to have Jay Schneiderman as my County Legislator because he has always fought for what’s important to East End residents and has been a strong advocate for veterans,” said Behan.
Behan formally announced his endorsement of Schneiderman at his home in Montauk.
“John Behan’s commitment and service to our community, country and veterans is exemplary and I’m honored to receive his endorsement,” said Legislator Schneiderman.
Behan represented the East End in the New York Assembly from 1978 to 1995, was instrumental in establishing the Assembly’s Veteran Affairs Committee and is a decorated Marine who was severely wounded in combat operations in Vietnam. Behan was also the director of the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs from 1995 to 1998 and is the former chairman of the East Hampton Republican Party.
