After hosting several executive sessions this month to complete the hiring process for three teaching positions and for the replacement of interim business administrator Dr. George Chesterton, this week the Bridgehampton School Board announced it has settled on candidates for several of those seats.
During a special school board meeting on June 21, the board unanimously agreed to hire Thomas House as a full-time high school English teacher in a three-year probationary contract at a salary of $64,605. It also hired Roxanne Lelchuk as a substitute secretary at an hourly rate of $15, and agreed to have Dr. Chesterton serve as business administrator mentor to new administrator Robert Hauser at a rate of $150 an hour.
Board member Joe Berhalter asked that expenses for Dr. Chesterton not exceed $800 daily, or 5.3 hours, which would keep his compensation at the same rate the district paid him during his tenure as interim business administrator, to which Dr. Chesterton agreed.
According to Bridgehampton School Board President Elizabeth Kotz, after an executive session to discuss his salary, the district agreed to hire Hauser with a three-year probationary contract for $96,000, although Kotz said on Tuesday the contract has yet to be finalized with the new business administrator.
Two other appointments – also on the agenda for the public meeting, but tabled into executive session – were not adopted by the board, although Kotz said the district is committed to the hires and are finalizing details within the contract. Those positions, if adopted, are for two special education teachers. Jeffrey Neubauer, who is certified in students with disabilities in grades seven through 12 with a concentration in math, and Patrick Aiello, certified in students with disabilities in grades seven through 12 with a concentration in social studies, are expected to fill those positions in a three-year probationary contracts each worth $61,806.
The next Bridgehampton School Board workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.
