Cause of Route 114 Collision Under Investigation

At 11:49 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16 the East Hampton Fire Department was dispatched to Route 114 north of Stephen Hands Path for a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. An investigation is ongoing into what caused the collision.

According to a police report, a 2002 Subaru Forrester and a 2008 Ford Explorer collided with each other while both vehicles were traveling northbound, causing the Subaru to veer into the oncoming lane of travel ultimately colliding head on with a 2008 Chevrolet Utility Truck.

Members of the East Hampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. tended to both drivers while members of the EHFD “White Knights” Heavy Rescue Squad used extrication tools to remove the driver of the Subaru Forrester, who was then transported va ambulance and then medevaced to Stony Brook University. East Hampton Town Police kept the road closed pending their investigation of the incident.

The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time, said police, as the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. Anyone that may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the East Hampton Town Police Department at 537-7575.
