John Leonard’s proposal to expand the Harbor Heights Service Station on Hampton Road in Sag Harbor will be tabled at next month’s Sag Harbor Village Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, according to ZBA secretary Lisa Koehne.
Leonard originally proposed to demolish the sagging gas station building and replace it with a new structure that would contain a convenience store. He also proposed moving and expanding the number of gas pumps on the site.
The project has faced criticism from some members of the public, including the not-for-profit Save Sag Harbor and a number of neighboring property owners.
In April, Leonard’s attorney Dennis Downes said they planned to redesign the project in an effort to reduce the number of variances they would need from the ZBA for an approval. According to Koehne, the application will be tabled until the ZBA’s August 20 meeting.
