Montauk has also been heavily affected, with 1,098 residents without power. 930 residents in Springs have also reported outages.

“Severe weather conditions from Hurricane Irene are causing widespread power outages across Long Island,” read a statement on LIPA’s website. “Estimated power restoration times will not available until the storm passes and damage can be assessed. Our crews will begin damage assessment and restoration as soon conditions permit.”

If you see a downed wire, assume it is a live electric wire and report it immediately to LIPA at 1-800-490-0075.

Very little has been broadcast about evacuation or other procedures being implemented in the Long Island NY area. I’m particularly concerned about a disabled son in Middle Island NY facility among the many others who are institutionalized in nursing homes, the elderly, etc. When are we going to treat ALL areas being affected by IRENE and other natural diastrs with the same in depth feedback as soon as is reasonably possible?
Thanks for any follow-up with this query.
Many Blessings to one and all.

i live in copaique and last year in March 2010 when the noreastern passed thu my family was the only family on the block to lose power it took an entire week (7 days) for Lipa to restore the electricity. It was a really bad experience and there were a couple of other longislander with out power but it was by far less people without power during that storm than it is today. Luckily i have power this time but i really feel bad for the those who dont because Lipa is going to take there sweet time about restoring the electricity… My prayers go out to you………….

Our power was restored Monday night in Northwest Harbor area, but now there’s a damn dog barking 24/7. If its not one thing its another.

Is there a listing of places for water, showers, power outlets (for recharging) anywhere? I’m sure many still looking.

Still without power, Thurs morning/Sept 1st, on Stony Hill Road in Amagansett. Wondering when LIPA plans to restore power to us. Until then no running water or electric.
