The Pierson-Bridgehampton baseball team beat Haldane High School, 5-4, late on Wednesday in a state regional final to advance to this Saturday’s New York State Final Four in Binghamton, New York.

Pierson took a 4-0 lead through three innings with Jake Bennett on the mound, but Haldane came back to tie the score at 4-4. The Whalers tacked on another run and Colman Vila, the hero from Tuesday’s Long Island Championship, closed out the game on the mound, pitching the last five outs.

The Whalers will play a semifinal in the morning of June 8, with the winner advancing to the New York State Class C final later in the afternoon.
