Pierson-Bridgehampton Soccer Season Comes to an End with a Playoff Loss

Posted on 09 November 2012

The Pierson-Bridgehampton boys soccer team had its season brought to a difficult end Friday night with an 8-2 loss to Port Jefferson in the semifinal round of the Suffolk County Class C playoffs. It was the second time in three years that the Whalers were eliminated from the postseason by the Royals, the defending Class C state champions.

There was hope early in the game thanks to the right foot of senior Forrest Loesch, who blasted a goal past Royals goalkeeper Gabe Davis, one of the best in the game, to tie the score at 1-1 with 27:35 remaining in the first half. The Royals from that point on dominated the midfield and used a masterful offensive attack to earn a berth in the county final, which will be played against Southold on Saturday.

Sophomore Jack Fitzpatrick scored a goal late in the second half for the Whalers long after the game had been decided, although head coach Peter Solow praised his players for fighting hard until the end of the game against what is easily one of the best soccer teams regardless of class in Suffolk County.
