Playoffs games for the Pierson-Bridgehampton baseball and softball teams were cut short because of rain Tuesday afternoon, with both games tentatively scheduled to be completed Wednesday, May 29.

The Whalers baseball team was leading Port Jefferson, 7-0, after three innings at Mashashimuet Park in what could be the deciding game of the Suffolk County Class C playoffs. The game will resume in the fourth inning on Wednesday in Sag Harbor at 4 p.m.

The Whalers are unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament and Port Jefferson, which beat Southold to advance to play Pierson, has lost once. If Port Jefferson manages to come back and win on Wednesday, one final game would be played immediately afterwards to determine the county champion.

Playing behind Pierson High School, the Lady Whalers were tied 1-1 with Port Jefferson after six innings in the opening game of softball’s Class C playoff. The game will resume in the seventh inning at Port Jefferson on Wednesday with Game 2 following immediately afterwards.

Game 3 would be played Thursday at Pierson if necessary.

Pierson athletic director Todd Gulluscio on Tuesday said every effort to complete the games had to be made because the New York State tournament was set to begin next week.
