Republican Primary Tuesday

Posted on 18 June 2014

Registered Republicans living in the 1st Congressional District will get the opportunity to pick a challenger for incumbent Democratic Congressman Tim Bishop in a primary on Tuesday.

Facing off for the opportunity are Lee Zeldin, a state senator from Shirley and a major in the U.S. Army Reserve, and George Demos, a former Securities and Exchange Commission attorney, who was born in Manhattan and now lives on Long Island.

Although Mr. Zeldin has been endorsed by many GOP and Conservative Party leaders, Mr. Demos has tried to paint him as not conservative enough.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
