“Thirteen Schiavonis and one Sander,” North Haven Mayor Jeff Sander joked on Tuesday, July 1, as more and more family members entered the North Haven Village Hall to watch Thomas J. Schiavoni be sworn in as the newest village trustee by wife, Andrea Schiavoni, who just happens to be a Southampton Town and Sag Harbor Village justice.
The baker’s dozen of family-members left the room right after the ceremony, and the board members whizzed through their agenda. They passed a resolution allowing Trustee Dianne Skilbred to obtain proposals for a new playground.
The board is also cracking down on signs throughout the village. Many real estate signs that are posted in North Haven are not in compliance with the law, which states that they must be limited to 4 square feet in size and must be set 25 feet back from the road. Of more concern, however, are the construction signs that have been cropping up all over.
“Anytime anyone comes in to do plumbing or insulation or anything they put a sign up,” said Mayor Sander.
A public hearing will take place at the next board meeting on Tuesday, August 5, when comments will be heard on a proposal to ban construction signs.
