Sag Harbor School Superintendent Dr. Carl Bonuso and Jennifer Ponzini, president of the elementary school PTA celebrate the PTA’s new collaboration with the non-profit Hugs Not Drugs.
The non-profit Hugs Not Drugs will kick off its joint fundraising effort with the Sag Harbor Elementary School PTA, the East Hampton YMCA and Southampton Youth Services on Friday, March 7.
The three entities have been selected as the organization’s first community fundraising partners and non-profit beneficiaries for a joint fundraising program Hugs Not Drugs hopes to expand nationally.
Hugs Not Drugs has partnered with pods.com, Groupe Stahl, thefix.com and Macaroni Kids to develop a national “Community HUGS” program of fundraisers to support groups that raise funding to promote and support positive family and community values and counseling.
The Sag Harbor Elementary School PTA, the East Hampton YMCA and SYS will host three to four pods throughout the year, and community members will be encouraged to donate clothing, electronics, leather goods, jewelry, antiques, paintings and prints, tools and other merchandise of value. Those items can be brought to each of the pod locations during school and facility hours and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Once each pod is filled they will be transported to a Hugs Not Drugs facility and the items resold, recycled or donated with the proceeds to help benefit each of these non-profit organizations.
