The Sag Harbor Union Free School District (sagharborschools.org) will host a series of discussion workshops to help parents promote student wellness and decrease high-risk behaviors in their children.

The series begins at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor next Wednesday, November 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a discussion by Ed Balzer (left, with his son), a Suffolk County dad. His son, Brian, was an all-star football player and honor student headed towards a bright future. Balzer will tell the story of his son’s descent into addiction — a presentation he makes throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties.

The series will continue on December 11 with a conversation with Elaine Economopoulos, the director of the Town of Smithtown Horizons Center for Counseling and Education. Economopoulos will discuss “Effective Communication and Role Modeling.”

The series will feature Wednesday night conversations through May covering other topics like substance abuse, gateway drugs, setting limits, family dynamics and substance abuse, coping skills and stress management and helping students avoid high risk behaviors.
