The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton boys swim team was the recipient of the 2013-2014 Section XI Sportsmanship Award, an honor that was announced during last Friday’s League II Championship meet at Hauppauge High School.

“This award is so important to me, as a coach, and means so much more than the wins and losses and is a true reflection of my philosophy of character building,” East Hampton coach Craig Brierley said. “I am very proud to accept this award in honor of the entire swim program, which includes the high school varsity team, the YMCA club team, the East Hampton Lifeguard program, and The Volunteer Ocean Rescue Squad.”

The Bonackers, who compete without a dive team, finished in fourth place with 196 points, behind Hauppauge (300 points), Sayville (226) and West Islip (209).

Robert Rewinski from Pierson was part of the team’s 200 medley relay, which posted a second place finish. Rewinski also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.10 and was a member of the 200 freestyle relay team, which finished in third place.

Pierson’s Caleb Atkinson-Barnes posted a personal best time of 2:113:53 in the 200 freestyle.

Next up for the team is the Suffolk County Championship Meet at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Saturday February 15 at 10:30 a.m.
