The Pierson softball team bounced back from a lopsided loss to Babylon last week with an 11-5 win over McGann-Mercy on Friday, March 28 and a 4-1 win over Port Jefferson on Tuesday.
Senior shortstop Kasey Gilbride provided the power at the plate in both games, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored against Mercy, including a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Zoe Diskin, who head coach Melissa Edwards has praised for her improved play, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Gilbride had two more hits against Port Jefferson at home on Tuesday as Pierson improved to 3-1 on the season.
Starting pitcher Sam Duchemin allowed six hits and two walks while striking out six to pick up the win against Mercy. She also picked up the win over Port Jefferson, and helped her cause at the plate with a two-run double in the fifth inning.
The two wins followed a rough 14-3 loss to Babylon last week in which Duchemin was roughed up for 11 runs in the first inning.
Next up for the Lady Whalers are two straight home games against Southold today, April 3, at 4:30 p.m. and against Center Moriches tomorrow, April 4, also at 4:30 p.m.
