More impressive accolades poured in this week for the Pierson field hockey team, which last month clinched the program’s first-ever New York State Class C title.
The team’s senior leader, Kasey Gilbride, was named to the All-Region team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association this week along with only 11 other players from New York state.
Gilbride led Long Island with 27 goals this year and finished with 34 total points, both of which were new school records. Her most important goal, of course, won the state title for Pierson on November 17.
“She’s the most recognized and award-winning athlete in Pierson history,” head coach Shannon Judge said. “She’s really an overall amazing field hockey player.”
Gilbride and Katherine Matthers this week were also named All-Long Island by Newsday, while Judge was named Coach of the Year.
Gilbride and Matthers have also been named All-County, while freshman Ana Sherwood received All-County Honorable Mention. India Hemby and Kirra McGowin earned All-Conference honors and Emme Luck All-Division.
McGowin, Erica Selyukova and Rachael Miller were named All-Tournament for their play during the postseason, while Gilbride, Matthers, Hemby, Sherwood, Luck and Sam Duchemin were named to the All-State Tournament team.
