Little League: Board Moves Online

Posted on 20 November 2008

In its first pre-season planning session on Tuesday the 2009 Sag Harbor-Bridgehampton Little League board agreed to offer online registration via eteamz, to keep registration fees at the $85 per player, $135 per family rate set in 2006 and to institute a $20 late registration fee for those submitting information after March 15.

The new board also targeted dates for its winter softball and baseball clinics and for its majors-and-AAA tryouts. Those dates, which must be approved by the host facilities, are: January 11 and 24, February 1 and 8, and March 8 for softball and baseball clinics at Pierson with tryouts March 15 for the majors and AAA programs (for players aged 9-to-12).

Updated information on the clinics dates, tryouts and registration will be available in the coming week on the chapter’s site: The next board meeting is on December 17 at Pierson at 7 p.m.

Softball Times Change

Because of the large turnout at last Saturday’s softball clinics at Pierson High School, there has been a slight adjustment in the schedule. Girls in fifth and sixth grades are to come in at 4 p.m. this Saturday, with that session going until 5:30 p.m.; girls in seventh grade and up should be ready to go at 5:30 p.m. with their workout finishing at 7 p.m.

The clinics will be led by Bay Shore varsity softball coach Jim McGowan, who will return to lead two more sessions on December 6 and 13, also at Pierson High School. There is a $25 fee for each session. The free wintertime chapter-led clinics will likely start after the New Year’s holiday.

Whalers Still Whalers

Little League graduate and Pierson baseball standout Mike Labrozzi (currently at Farmingdale State) has signed to play summer baseball with the Sag Harbor Whalers in the Hamptons Division of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. The Whalers, who will play all their home games in Mashashimuet Park next summer, were the league’s runner-up in their 2008 debut.

On the Whaler squad this past summer was 2007 Pierson graduate Dan Reiser (currently at Springfield College). Reiser has also signed on to the Whalers squad for the coming summer and is already looking forward getting on the mound in the park a few more times.
