Long Course at Breakwater Yacht Club

Posted on 26 June 2014

Instant Karma and captains David Betts and Charlene Kagel finished first with a corrected time of 1 hour 11 minutes and 22 seconds in the Division 1 race of the Breakwater Yacht Club’s Wednesday night sailing series on June 18. Gossip, captained by Steve Kenny and Greg Ames, finished second with a corrected time of 1:15:56, while Wayne and Carol Morse sailed Roxanne to a third place finish in 1:16:36.

“The windward mark was in Smith’s Cove near the ferry slip,” said Gordon Ryan of the race committee. “The fleet then set spinnakers and rounded the south channel past the rock pile and headed to a set mark “D” at Cedar Point.  The course, as planned, then returned all the way around Mashomack Point and back again to Smith’s Cove for a final spinnaker run home to the breakwater. However, the northwest wind died and, facing a strong ebb tide, the RC reluctantly finished the race at Cedar Point.”

In Division 2, George Martin sailed Osprey to a win with a corrected time of 1:13:12. White Lightning and captains Jim Smyth and Derrick Galen finished second in 1:13:20 and Skidip!, captained by Barry Browning, finished third in 1:15:02.
