With one week remaining in regular season play, the likely playoff pairings in for the Sag Harbor Mens’ Modified Fastpitch Softball League are still in question. This past week though saw Decker’s Scrubs and Beyel Plumbing and Heating come away with much-needed wins to close in on the last two playoff spots.

Going into last night’s games, Sag Harbor Liquors at 13-2 remains the front-runner, holding a head-to-head advantage over second-place T&S Mott, who at 9-3 has several games to make up.

The Scrubs’ two wins improved their mark to 9-6 and Beyel’s three wins made theirs 8-6. Those records put the two teams a win or two away from clinching playoff berths, Immaculate Swimming Pools (5-9) and Southampton Publick House (4-9) each seeing the post-season slowly slip away. At 1-14, the Hysterical Society (1-14) has locked in last place.

Scores & More

Publick House came off the field with tough two late-game losses this week, Beyel rallying in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 comeback win Monday and Liquors getting away 12-11 in the bottom of the eighth Tuesday.

That’s how close the teams have been playing of late, Beyel’s 15-0 mercy-win over Immaculate and Decker’s 14-4 rout of Hysterical on Thursday being the exception.

Decker beat Immaculate 11-9 Monday to all but eliminate the pool men, and Beyel kept its late charge going by outscoring Hysterical 23-19 Tuesday.

The Beyel win Tuesday saw Chris Gregory go three-for-five with three home runs in consecutive at-bats. Gregory also proved to be the hero in the comeback Monday, a two-run bases-loaded hit in the bottom of the seventh negating a two-out Publick House rally that put the pubsters up 4-3 in the top of the seventh.

The Week Ahead

To clinch their spots, the Scrubs need to win one and Beyel two, while any losses by Immaculate and Publick House will eliminate those teams from contention.

The week’s big game is Tuesday’s Scrubs at Beyel match-up, the outcome likely to decide who earns third place and a shot at Mott and who gets fourth place and a date with Liquors.

Tonight, Immaculate meets Mott at 7 p.m. with a potential make-up game in the works for 8:45 p.m.

On Monday, Publick is home against Hysterical in the early game with Liquors at Mott late. On Tuesday, Beyels hosts the Scrubs early and Mott meets Publick in late.

Wednesday’s slate has Beyel at Immaculate early and Liquors at the Scrubs late. Immaculate matches up with Hysterical early next Thursday, with a yet-to-be-determined make-up to be rescheduled in the late game.
