If you look at the calendar it’s spring but the weather obviously didn’t get the memo. We have had some cold, raw weather with snow, rain and wind. It seems that winter wants to hang on. However there are plenty of spring signs. The snowdrops, crocuses and first daffodils are in bloom. Big flocks of grackles and red-winged blackbirds are in the area. More vultures were seen soaring on the wind over Sag Harbor. Young Nate Barbour spotted an osprey in Water Mill, quite a good eye for a 4-year-old! The weatherman says it is going to be cool for the next week and perhaps even some more snow!
The weather continues to be a problem for the winter codfishermen. It did bounce back after that last big blow. The codfishing was better with some ling mixing in too. There has been no talk of dogfish lately. This fishery could be over after March but we can always have hope. There is no news on any updated fishing regulations as of yet. As soon as the weather breaks it will be time to uncover the boat.
There are still some good things to be found on those beach walks. Some of you folks hiking upland should keep a lookout for shed deer antlers.
