The East Hampton boys swim team opened its League II duel meet season with a 109-74 road loss to Hauppauge on January 7, where Pierson’s Joe Gengarelly posted a personal best time of 31.63 in the 200-meter medley relay The team on Thursday lost a tight meet to West Islip, 52-49, to fall to 0-2 in league competition.
“The meet promised to be a barn burner and it was,” head coach Craig Brierley said about facing West Islip. “It came down to the final event, the 400-freestyle relay.”
East Hampton needed to finish 1-2 in the relay, but after the A relay took first place, the B relay team finished third, albeit with a personal best time. As usual, the Bonackers had to forfeit the diving competition since they have no divers on the team, which resulted in a difference of seven points.
The team hosted Harborfields yesterday, January 15, after press time and will face North Babylon on the road on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
