The Ross boys varsity basketball strong season came to a close with a loss to the Biondi of Yonkers during the Class D Southeast Regional semi-finals at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue on March 8.
The game marked the first time the Ross Cosmos reached the playoffs in the school’s history. Although the Cosmos started off strong, they were ultimately overpowered by a stronger and taller team.
“The boys played really well and very tough,” said Jaye Cohen, Ross Athletic Director. “The other team had three players over 6’4. We hung tough for about 1 1/2 quarters.”
Forward Brandon Pettaway and point guard Liam Chaskey, who had been out for part of the season due to an ankle sprain, hit several big three’s in the first quarter with the lead changing multiple times. Brandon even hit a three at the buzzer of the first quarter (20-16). In the second quarter, Biondi changed their strategy and took over the game. The halftime score was 43-24. Ross came out in the third with a big three from Liam and then the other team just clamped down and the Cosmos fell, 76-46.
