Swimmers Compete in League Meet

The East Hampton swim team, which features students from Pierson and Bridgehampton, competed in the League II Championship on Tuesday, falling just short of Sayville/Bayport in the standings. The Bonackers scored 114.5 points, which was one point more than third place Hauppauge. Sayville won the meet with 262 total points.

Pierson’s Kyle Sturman finished 13th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06:73 and Joe Gengarelly finished 8th in the 100-yard breastroke in 1:11.69.

Bridgehampton’s Rob Rewinski had a strong showing as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in second place with a time of 3:31.56. He also finished in 5th place in the 100-yard freestyle and in 11th place in the 50-yard free.

Heine Falls In Suffolk Tournament

Wrestling at 220 pounds, Pierson’s Kevin Heine won his opening match at the Suffolk County Division I Tournament at Walt Whitman High School on Tuesday, pinning Jon Wilson of East Islip in 2 minutes and 32 seconds. Heine, who is undersized and could have wrestled at a lesser weight, went on to lose to John Vigh of Sachem East in the following round. He advanced to “wrestlebacks” to compete for third, fourth and fifth place, but was pinned in his first match by Vin Feola of Walt Whitman at the 3:25 mark, bringing an end to his senior season.

Heine was the lone wrestler from the East Hampton team to advance to the county tournament.
