Pierson Boys Basketball

The Pierson Whalers boys’ varsity basketball team will be going into Friday’s cross-turnpike rivalry game against the visiting Bridgehampton Bees (4-3) with momentum after beating the Southold Porters (3-4) in a 61-39 rout. The Southold game, held on Friday, January 20 had the Whalers back to their sharpshooting ways, with nine different players scoring at least one field goal, and five different players tallying a 3-pointer. Junior swingman Jake Bennett led the Whalers with 12 points, junior guard Jackson Marienfeld scored 10, and senior forward Sam Miller finished with 8. The Whalers-Bees game will start at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, January 27. The Whalers will then face the Shelter Island Indians (2-5) in an away game on Tuesday, January 31 at 5:45 p.m.

Bridgehampton Boys Basketball

Coming off of their thrilling 92 point performance over Ross, the Bridgehampton Killer Bees boys’ varsity basketball team was brought back down to earth after losing to the first place Stony Brook Bears (5-1), 72-45, on Friday, January 20. Senior forward Canaan Cambell, who had a career-high 40 points in the Ross game, was limited to a season-low 7 points in Friday’s loss. In the loss eighth grader Tylik Furman led the Bees with 18 points, and freshman Davion Cooper added 8 points. Bridgehampton’s mettle will be tested in a Friday night rivalry game against the Pierson Whalers (5-2) at 6:15 p.m. In their last meeting in December Pierson crushed the Bees, 64-44, under a barrage of 3-point shots. The Bees will then travel to Smithtown Christian (1-6) on Tuesday, January 31 at 4:30 p.m.

Ross Girls Basketball

Halfway through the season the Ross Lady Cosmos girls’ varsity basketball team is still without a win after dropping two more league games this week. They first lost to Smithtown Christian (1-5), 56-26, on Friday, January 20. Ajiah Jones-King led the Lady Cosmos with 9 points in the loss, Emma Betuel added 6, while Stephanie Oppenheim tallied 4. The Lady Cosmos then lost to first place Southold (6-0), 48-23, on Monday, January 23. Betuel led the team with 9 points, while Jones-King contributed 6 of her own. On Saturday, January 28 at 4:30 p.m. the Lady Cosmos will host The Knox School in a non-league matchup. The following Tuesday, January 31 at 6:15 p.m. Southold will travel to Ross for a rematch of the January 23 game.
