Breakwater Series Coming to a Close

Bragging rights were on the line in last night’s season finale to the Breakwater Yacht Club Wednesday Night Sailing Series, with second- and third-place finishes still up for grabs depending on the results, which were not available as of press time.

Two familiar names had already secured the season’s top spots going into last night’s race, with Gossip, captained by Steve Kenny and Greg Ames, winning Division 1 and Osprey, captained by George Martin, winning Division 2.

Second- and third-place, therefore, were to be determined on Wednesday, August 28, with Purple Haze, Skoot and Roxanne separated by just five points in the Division 1 standings. In Division 2, White Lighting, Swans’ Way, Boogie Van and Skidipi were all within striking distance of a top-three finish.

Results from Wednesday, August 22 had Purple Haze, with Lee Oldak as captain, winning Division 1 with a corrected time of 1 hour, 6 minutes and 31 seconds. Fred Stelle, aboard Witchli, finished second in 1:09:08 and Donald Filipelli, aboard Caminos, finished third in 1:09:14.

Osprey locked up the season crown with a first-place finish in Division 2 with a corrected time of 1:08:09. Boogie Van, captained by Jody LoCascio, finished second in 1:11:20 and Jim Smyth and Derrick Galen aboard White Lightning finished third in 1:12:58.
