Walker Cup This Weekend

The Walker Cup Match, a biennial team competition between 10 male amateur golfers from the United States and from Great Britain and Ireland, will take place this weekend at The National Golf Links of American in Southampton. Tickets for the match, which will take place from September 6 through 8 are on sale at www.2013walkercup.com/tickets, according to the United States Golf Association (USGA).

A total of 18 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate-shot) matches will be played over the two weekend days, with practice rounds and an opening ceremony taking place on Friday. Gallery ropes will surround tees and greens only, offering a much more open viewing opportunity than other major USGA events.

The Match is returning to National, where it was first contested in 1922. The 2013 competition will be the 44th match, with the USA leading the series, 34-8-1.
