The Lady Whalers varsity softball team started the season on a hot streak, winning their first three games of the year.
This past week the Pierson/Bridgehampton Lady Whalers traveled to Miller Place on Thursday, March 22, and left with a hard fought 18-14 non-league win.
The team then hosted Stony Brook on Tuesday, March 27, where it came back from a three run deficit to win 11-3. Senior pitcher Melanie Stafford went 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs in that game. Sophomore Kasey Gilbride went 2-3 with two RBIs. The win gives Pierson a record of 2-0 in the league, with an overall record of 3-0.
The Lady Whalers had another game at Port Jefferson on Wednesday, March 28, however the results were not available before press time. On Friday, March 30 the Lady Whalers host McGann-Mercy in a league match up at 4:30 p.m.
The Ross boys varsity tennis team began its season this past week, and already have the first three matches in the books.
The Cosmos opened the season with a home league matchup against East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson on Friday, March 23. Ross proved too much for the combined Bonackers team and won with a 6-1 team score.
Ross hosted Northport on Saturday, March 24 and lost in a close 4-3 team score. Then on Monday, March 26 Ross was swept 7-0 by Half Hollow Hills East. Despite these non-league losses, Ross still maintains a 1-0 league record.
The Cosmos travel to Shoreham-Wading River today, March 29 at 4:30 p.m. for their next league matchup.
