Whalers Bounce Back From Loss with Two Wins

The Pierson boys basketball team bounced back from a heartbreaking one-point loss to Stony Brook on January 15 with two wins this week over the Ross School and Smithtown Christian. Forrest Loesch led the Whalers with 17 points as Pierson went on the road to defeat Ross, 64-53. The Whalers returned home on Tuesday and earned a 69-48 win over Smithtown Christian to improve their League VIII record to 8-1.

Loesch led Pierson again, with 24 points, against Smithtown Christian while Patrick Sloane chipped in with 15.

Much more challenging games lie ahead for Pierson in the coming week, starting tomorrow, January 25 at Greenport, one of the top teams in the league that Pierson got the best of in their first meeting, winning 64-39 on December 21.

The Whalers will also host Shelter Island on Tuesday, January 29 at 6:15 p.m.

Killer Bees Finish Up Week

The Bridgehampton boys basketball team capped an up week with a 65-36 win over Southold on Tuesday night. Jason Hopson led all the Killer Bees with 22 points as the team improved to 5-4 in League VIII play.

Prior to the win, the Bees handled Greenport on Friday, January 18, 48-38. A scheduled road game to Wyandanch, a League VII team, was cancelled, leaving the Bees with a 6-6 record overall.

Tomorrow night will be another tough test as Bridgehampton will travel to play undefeated Stony Brook at 7:30 p.m. A home game against Smithtown Christian is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 at 6 p.m.
