Pierson girls’ cross-country coach and Ross track coach Jim Kinnier has established the Hampton Track Club to promote different types of running to young and interested competitors. In giving those kids a taste of what they might expect in their middle school and high school programs, Coach Kinnier has scheduled a pair of cross-country meets in Mashashimuet Park this fall.

The first of those events took place last Sunday with warm temperatures and bright sun sending many families towards the beach. Still, several intrepid runners turned out for the 10-and-under one-mile course and the 11-and-12 year old one-and-a-half-mile course.

Leading boys’ 10-and-under group to the finish was Max Washburn, coming in eight minutes, 55 seconds. Conor Flanagan was second at 9:02.

Charlie Flanagan took the boys’ 11-and-12 trophy, completing that course in 11:55, a 7:58 per mile pace. Lucas Yennie placed second, just steps behind at 11:57. Chris Ritter came in third at 13:09.

In the girls’ 10-and-under race, Allura Leggard finished first at 9:58?with Isabel Peters in second at 10:16.

The next Hampton Track Club youth meet is in the park next Sunday, October 4. The running events start at 8 a.m. More information is available at hamptonstrackclub.org.
