Bothered by modest, yet persistent back problems? Troubled by popping hips? In Balance, a Sag Harbor based Pilates studio, could have the solution. The company has announced a new program that focuses on the common affliction of back pain. “Preventing Injuries: Areas of Back Weakness” is a free session, open to the public, aimed at mild back pain and discomfort experienced by a great number of people. The class will take place in the studio at 34 West Water Street on Friday, August 15, at 4 p.m. Space is limited, so reservations are recommended.
The 60-minute workshop will be led by Dr. Laura Tesch, who holds a doctorate in physical therapy and has trained as a dancer, Pilates practitioner and runner, all of which have molded her treatment philosophy, which specializes in non-surgical orthopedic issues. The program combines the easing of the physical with a complementing insight into the importance of balance of mind, body and spirit, all working toward providing intelligent options for staying in shape. Dr. Tesch will speak about common issues related to weakness in the upper, middle and lower back, as well as sampling of symptoms and remediation options.
In Balance has been in Sag Harbor for 16 years, working with the public in a mission to restore balance to their bodies through the Pilates method. It offers a series of group or private classes, as well as home workouts. For more information, or to book a place on Dr. Tesch’s program, visit www.inbalancestudio.com or call (631) 725-8282.
