In the midst of the Fourth of July holiday weekend, a 23-year-old male staying at a home in Bridgehampton was arrested on charges of sexual assault, Southampton Town Police say.
Thomas S. Bellone, 23, of Bronxville, N.Y. was officially charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, a felony, and forcible touching, a misdemeanor, on Sunday, July 3, police say.
Detective Sergeant Randy Hintz said he had “no comment” on whether the two parties involved in the case were local or not, though he did say that addresses for both individuals were out-of-town. He also did not release the exact age of the victim, or say whether or not Bellone has had prior convictions.
“The policy of my division is not to comment on cases involving sexual abuse,” he said.
According to the arrest report, Southampton Town Police received a call just after midnight from a woman staying at a home on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. In the report, she claimed to have gone to a room to sleep at 11 p.m. and was reportedly awoken about an hour later by someone she said she didn’t know, but later identified as Bellone.
According to her testimony, an unknown man was lying on top of her, aroused, and was rubbing up against her body. The female victim also claimed Bellone was touching her body and kissing her body.
The young woman allegedly yelled, “Who are you?” before pushing the man off of her and exiting the room. She says she headed downstairs where she found her boyfriend and then called the police.
Police say the two individuals were both staying at the residence.
Bellone was arraigned by Judge Edward Burke at Southampton Town Justice Court on Sunday, July 3. A court official said not bail was required, and that Bellone plead “not guilty.” He is due back in court on Thursday, July 28.
